GenSeM PhD reps have the word

12 July 2022

It’s been a busy year for us GenSeM PhD/Early Career Researcher representatives!

We want to say a big ‘thank you!’ to all those wonderful GenSeM members who have joined us at our online and in-person events so far. Here is a quick wrap up of what we’ve been doing...

Writing retreats

We have run several online writing retreats, two of them together with the MITRA standing committee, which was a great experience. It’s been almost two years since we started running these events and they have become a really special place for us, where we can meet the GenSeM community and support each other.

Our next writing retreat is a full weekend event on 15-17 July 2022. We will also run an extra goal-setting session before the weekend so you can get focussed and prepared. You still have time to sign up, so just email us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and we will add you to the list.

Reading retreat

We also have experimented with an online reading retreat, which gave us lots of ideas for how to protect and enjoy our academic reading time. If you would like to know more about the materials we used to structure our reading, just get in touch.

IMISCOE 19th annual conference activities

Nicola attended the IMISCOE annual conference in Oslo and had a great time meeting some of you in person. She organised three panels and also delivered a workshop on How to Run Your Own Writing Retreat. As promised, Marianela has prepared a recording of this session for those of you who (like her) were not able to make it to the conference.

Coming up... you tell us!

We are very excited about new projects for the next (and our last) year as GenSeM PhD reps. However, our ideas need to be anchored in reality - that’s why we created this short survey to learn about your needs and desires. It only has three questions and the estimated duration of the survey is just one minute, so please send us your thoughts and ideas!

All the best,

Marianela & Nicola
